WHAT DO THESE TWO BRAVE WOMEN HAVE IN COMMON?

FGM Blade bloodBoth these women are avidly supporting the abolition of the violent and barbaric practice of FGM and gender based violence, and both are targeted for fighting such human rights abuses to females.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali was born into a Muslim family in Somalia. She became a politician, activist and writer in Holland, where her friend Theo van Gogh was brutally murdered over a decade ago after the two collaborated on a film about the treatment of women in Islam.

It appears some in the community are limited in their understanding of the severity of the abusive practice and the world wide attention to stamp out such abusive violations of human rights.

The United Nations General Assembly unanimously agreed, on the 20th Dec 2012, Female Genital Mutilation constitutes a violation of human rights, and legislated to prohibit FGM and to protect women…
